Surface with Garnet
A sculptural silver ring with a garnet crystal, a voluminous hemispherical form and a dark landscape-like surface shaped by fire.
Description
“Surface with Garnet” is a sterling silver prototype set with a garnet crystal.
The ring has a voluminous hemispherical form. Flame treatment gave the upper surface a rough texture with small protrusions, openings and the feeling of an uneven landscape.
The surface is darkened with Italian ArgenBlack patina, emphasizing the relief, recesses and overall depth of the form.
The garnet acts as a center of color within the dark metal surface. Rather than making the ring conventional, it becomes part of the sculptural composition.
The projecting hemisphere, dark patina and landscape-like texture make the ring feel more like a small object than a conventional stone setting.
Commissioning a Similar Piece
A similar piece can preserve the voluminous hemisphere, dark patina, landscape-like surface and stone inlay.
For a custom commission, the proportions and height can be changed, the stone replaced or additional stones added.
The patina can also be omitted, leaving the surface light, matte, satin-finished or more restrained in texture.
