Transparent Geometry — sterling silver art ring by NP Studio
NP STUDIO / PROTOTYPE

Transparent Geometry

A sterling silver ring with a crumpled matte surface and a cylindrical labradorite setting. Its geometry emerges through compressed metal, texture and a small structural element.

Description

“Transparent Geometry” is a prototype ring in sterling silver with a small labradorite setting.

The ring consists of two main elements. The first is the shank with its crumpled surface, created by embossing the metal and then mechanically compressing it.

The ring is not polished. Its surface is matte, retaining lively irregularities and traces of handwork.

The second element is a small cylinder holding a labradorite. Concentric circles were cut into its surface with a diamond tool.

The piece is not about symmetrical geometry, but about the tension between a simple construction, the compressed shank, the crumpled surface and a small stone accent.

An exact repeat is impossible: the direction in which the metal compresses cannot be predicted. The ring’s overall character can be preserved, but its particular surface pattern will differ.

Recreating the Piece

A similar piece can preserve the overall character: a crumpled matte surface, compressed shank, cylindrical element and stone setting.

For a custom commission, the stone can be changed, new elements added or the construction altered.

No two versions will be identical because the shank is compressed mechanically and the direction of deformation differs each time.
